‘Black Knight Swarm’ makes life miserable for Wildcats
Andrews – It was not the offensive explosion that would thrill today’s generation, but Robbinsville put on a defensive clinic Friday.
Roman Jones and Cooper Adams each found the end zone twice for the Black Knights, providing all the breathing room necessary to compliment Robbinsville’s stubbornness – the hosting Wildcats had just 153 total offensive yards – in a 28-7 win at Hugh Hamilton Stadium.
Both the Knights’ line and interior shined throughout the night, with a mixture of middle linebackers Isiac Collins and Quinn Jumper matching linemen John Dominguez and Avery Webster for a quartet of sacks on Wildcats quarterback Everett Tatham. Collins and another member of the front-row defense – Tytan Teesateskie – paved the way by recording six tackles apiece in the victory. Collins also recovered a fumble, while Bryce Adams picked off a Tatham pass.
The game was scoreless until the first snap of the second quarter, when Jones broke through a wide gap created by the offensive line to strike from 22 yards out. Cooper Adams followed with at the 4-minute mark of the period by sprinting 17 yards to the house, before tacking on another in a 6-yard dash with 9:42 left in the third.
Jones capped the Robbinsville (3-5, 2-1) scoreline with 9:05 left in the game, rumbling across the valley on a 42-yard scamper. Kicker Angel Cervantes made sure the four touchdowns were not in vain, splitting the uprights four different times.
Andrews (4-3, 1-2) made its only dent in the outcome late, when Tatham dove across the goal line to spoil the shutout. Micah Gibson booted a successful PAT to follow.
Aside from a 28-12 setback in Cherokee County two years ago, the Black Knights are 33-2 against the Wildcats since 1998.
Robbinsville looks to stay near the top of the Smoky Mountain Conference standings by visiting Frank R. Long Stadium in Hayesville on Friday, Oct. 25. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
