Robbinsville – After an emotionally-charged road win over Murphy on Sept. 16, one could easily understand how the JV Black Knights might have dreaded throwing pads back on for another game just three days later.
But really, Robbinsville needed just 10 minutes or so to get back into its groove.
Following a scoreless first, the Knights poured 26 points into the second quarter of Sept. 19’s home outing with Andrews.
The Wildcats struggled to maintain possession in the fallout, leading to a 32-0 shutout by Robbinsville at Modeal Walsh Memorial Stadium.
Elijah Kirkland got the press rolling with a 1-yard push at the 9:32 mark of the second. Not 90 seconds later, Kirkland rumbled 64 yards for another strike.
Robbinsville (5-0) waited until 1:38 remained in the half before delivering its third blow – Braylon Blevins found Landon Pollard on an 11-yard touchdown heave – and before the Cats were able to gather their bearings, Kirkland simply took the football from the clutches of Andrews quarterback Will Phillips and ran it back 37 yards.
Mason Silvers got in on the fun with 8:31 left in the final stanza, scoring on a 42-yard run. Easton Shuler went on to dash the Wildcats’ hopes of cracking the visitor column of the scoreboard by picking off Phillips in the waning moments of the dismantling.
Robbinsville’s Xamuel Wachacha connected for a pair of PATs, helping contribute to the outcome.
The Black Knights welcome Hayesville for a 6 p.m., clash tonight on Bob Colvin Field.
If you cannot attend the game in-person, it will be live-streamed for free on The Graham Star’s YouTube channel.
