Robbinsville – Opening the Smoky Mountain Conference portion of their season with a loss is not something the junior varsity Black Knights are accustomed to.
However, the Sept. 11 return to the friendly confines of Modeal Walsh Memorial Stadium made the 40-14 defeat handed down by Swain County on Sept. 8 a distant memory, as Robbinsville (3-1) downed the Rosman Tigers 40-0.
Brayden Farley jump-started the fun with a 34-yard rushing touchdown at the 5:43 mark of the first quarter, before Ethan Chekelelee dashed across with a conversion. Chekelelee later carried in an eight-yard score with 32 seconds left in the segment.
In the second, Kreed Williams rumbled through for his first of three on the ground: a one-yard touchdown that gave the Black Knights a 20-0 advantage. Williams followed up with a 39-yard effort and nine-yard rush in the third, running Robbinsville up to a 32-0 nod.
Splitting the scores was a Devin Burchfield interception.
The Knights rounded out the dominant showing with an eight-yard touchdown from Braylen Phillips in the fourth quarter. Zayvian Wachacha took care of the conversion to round out the scoreline.
Walker Lane intercepted a Rosman pass with under two minutes left in the game.
Robbinsville travels to Hayesville today, to face the Yellow Jackets. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
