While other programs enjoyed the Christmas break, Robbinsville wrestling continued to celebrate its 50th anniversary by doing what it does best: hitting the road for quality competition.
Between a quad match at Tuscola on Dec. 30 and the Enka Jet Duals on Saturday, the Black Knights wrestled in seven total duals, going 5-2 over the stretch. Robbinsville is now 11-9 this season.
At Tuscola, the Black Knights downed Mountain Heritage 71-0 and the hosting Mountaineers 51-27, but fell to Enka in a slim 34-30 defeat.
Robbinsville squashed Owen, 65-15; Erwin, 76-0; and Smoky Mountain, 59-18 at Saturday's tournament in Candler. The only loss came at the hands of R-S Central, with the Black Knights coming out on the losing end of a 40-31 final.
Lady Knights
In the varsity girls' only action of the recent stretch, Robbinsville finished second in Saturday's 4th Annual Bearcat Invitational. The Lady Knights accumulated 115 team points, while Swain County won the event by posting 159.
Alexis El-Khouri won the 132-pound weight class, while Myah Winfrey placed second in the 145-pound competition. Natalee Myers (152 pounds) claimed third, and both Isabella Jones (100) and Alexis Miller (126) took fourth.
Other Robbinsville grapplers competing were Kolbi Woods (100), Julia Vazquez (107), Jayden Chekelelee (120), Milexa Jenkins (120), Madison Cable (126), Madison Felton (138) and Shayla Dominguez (235).
