Robbinsville – The only team to disrupt an otherwise-perfect season for the Robbinsville Middle School Lady Knights has been Swain County.
The Lady Devils inflicted an 11-1 loss on Robbinsville on March 29, before traveling to Graham County and sweeping the season series against the Knights on Friday, 10-4.
A sacrifice flyout proved to be all the damage Swain was able to do in the top of the first. Robbinsville (4-2) promptly responded, as Kynadee Spencer tripled with one out and later came home on an RBI single from starting hurler Presley Caylor in the bottom of the inning.
The Devils edged back ahead 2-1 in the second on a single and tacked on two more off a wild pitch in the third. Caylor garnered her second RBI of the afternoon with one out in the home half of the third – which drove in Daphne Barlow – while Anna Williams sprinted home on an error during the chaos.
Swain County pulled away from the 4-3 lead in the fourth, plating four on a single, a 2-run triple and a fielding error. The Devils then scored another pair on an error in the fifth, while Robbinsville’s final gasp came in the bottom of the inning, as Caylor doubled to score Williams.
The middle school Black Knights (1-4) dropped their rematch to Swain County, 16-6.
Tuesday’s tilt against Cherokee was rained out.
