Cherokee – Things seemed well in-hand for Robbinsville Middle School’s baseball team March 21.
Carrying a 9-6 lead into the bottom of the first, the Black Knights were three outs from starting the season 5-0. Not to mention, Robbinsville had just run-ruled the now-hosting Cherokee Braves 13-3 two days prior.
But fate had other plans. The Braves surged back and scored four runs to walk-off with a 10-9 win over Robbinsville.
Pitching duties were handled by Peyton Brooks and Rylen Orr, who split the bill across respective 3- and 4-inning stints on the hill.
Brooks, Benton Gibby, Deacon Hyde, Jackson Lane, Bam Nelms and Orr all had hits in the loss.
Robbinsville (4-1) was scheduled for a set of games this week against Martins Creek, but the Hornets did not form a team after the slate was in place.
The Lady Knights (5-0) saw their March 21 appointment at Cherokee postponed; a make-up date had not been announced by The Graham Star’s Wednesday press deadline.
Martins Creek did not plan to have a softball team in 2024.
With the scheduled 8th grade trip and Spring Break looming, neither team will see action again until a home tilt with Hiwassee Dam/Ranger on Tuesday, April 16.
