Robbinsville – Things got off to a rocky start for the Robbinsville Middle School basketball program this season.
The Lady Knights fell 55-7 to the Cherokee Braves in Monday’s season opener, while the Black Knights were upended 58-22 in the nightcap.
Both programs suffered from a combination of first-game jitters and a speedy Cherokee defense. The Braves picked apart Robbinsville’s offense and struck numerous times in transition, with the Lady Knights unable to get on the scoreboard in the first half and the Black Knights being held to nine points across the first two segments.
For the Lady Knights, Chloe Adams finished the game with six points, while MyKayla McGuire hit a foul shot in the second half.
In the boys game, Tillman Adams recorded 11 points and four rebounds. Owen Blevins tallied six points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Dane Knott hit a 3-pointer and Isiac Collins dropped a bucket.
