Knott posts 27 in road game
Bryson City – Down by 17 at halftime, the Black Knights could easily have thrown in the towel.
However, Robbinsville (5-2) refused to go down without a fight, putting up 36 points in the second half of the Nov. 18 road game at Swain County and ultimately edging the Maroon Devils 54-53.
The jostle came right down to the wire. In the closing seconds, Tillman Adams drew a 3-point foul, and with Robbinsville down 53-51 every shot counted.
In turn, Adams went 3-for-3 at the charity stripe and pulled the Knights to victory. He was 5-for-5 on free throws and finished the game with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals.
Leading the scoreline was Dane Knott, who amassed 19 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. Point guard Luke Lovin ended his night with nine points, but had 10 assists to his credit. Also scoring was Isiac Collins 5 and Benny Moose 3.
The Lady Knights (1-5) dropped the Nov. 18 opener to Swain County, 41-31.
Scoring for Robbinsville was handled by Abby Wehr 11, Katie Lyn Gross and Novie Dutcher with 6 each, Chloe Adams 4, and both Maleah Cox and Zaelyn Chekeleelee with a bucket apiece.
Stymied by Murphy
Robbinsville – The Knights’ latest home tilt took place three days before Thanksgiving, with both squads dropping games to Murphy.
In the Lady Knights’ 49-26 loss, Wehr led Robbinsville with 15 points. Dutcher and Zaelyn Chekeleelee had three points apiece, with Chasity Jones and Anna Williams adding two each. Cox connected on a second-quarter free throw.
Meanwhile, the Black Knights fell 67-36 to a stacked Bulldogs lineup.
Knott led the Robbinsville charge with 11 points.
Also scoring was Lovin 7, Collins and Tillman Adams with 4 each, Moose 3, Owen Blevins, Dane Daniels and Xamuel Wachacha with 2 apiece, and Kyzik Teesateskie with 1.
Eagles thrashed
Ranger – Behind a 27-point game from Knott, Robbinsville cruised past the Hiwassee Dam/Ranger Eagles 52-37 on Monday.
Other Black Knights to contribute to the outcome were Lovin 6, Collins 5, Blevins and Kasen Buchanan with 4 each, Adams 3, Wachacha 2 and Bam Nelms 1.
The Lady Knights led 11-5 after the first quarter in Monday’s opener, but could not find the basket in the second, giving the Lady Eagles a chance to race to a 17-11 halftime lead and an eventual 44-20 Robbinsville loss.
Wehr’s 12 points spearheaded the Knights offense.
Also scoring was Dutcher 5, Gross 2 and MyKayla McGuire 1.
