Robbinsville places 3rd at individual tournament
Hudson – Kage Williams has already won two 1A state championships.
In two different weight classes.
So it was little surprise that Robbinsville’s top grappler went 3-0 against competition from 2A, 3A and 4A at Saturday’s Dekota Smith Invitational, as Williams easily won the 195-pound bracket.
To reach the top of the podium, Williams pinned Jacorian Logan (West Caldwell) and Reese Miller (West Iredell); before earning an 11-1 majority decision over Mooresville’s Brady Rabb in the finals.
Senior Turner Jackson is back in a singlet for the first time since his freshman year and also shined at the invitational. To win the 170-pound division, Jackson pinned all three of his opponents: South Caldwell’s Nolan Litton, Hilbriten’s Joshua Stillwell and West Caldwell’s Luke Roberts.
Bobby Moore also ran the table to prevail in the 138-pound competition.
He mowed down both McDowell’s Logan Laurie and West Caldwell’s Nickolas Calhoun via pinfall to reach the finals, where Moore bested West Iredell’s Xavier Thomas in a 9-6 decision.
Williams and Jackson were the only two Knights to conquer a bracket Saturday. Avery Phillips (126 pounds) finished second in his weight class, while Adair Panama (106), Alexis Panama (113), Lleyton Hooper (132) and Willie Riddle (152) each finished third in their field.
Also competing for Robbinsville were Ethan Webster (120), Devin Hall (145), Jeremiah Phillips (160), Kyler Branham (182) and Owen Blevins (285).
Overall, Robbinsville placed third in the 9-team race, with 117 points. Pisgah won the tournament by scoring 184 points.
The Knights traveled to T.C. Roberson’s after The Graham Star’s early Thanksgiving deadline Tuesday, before entering the Enka Invitational Wednesday.
