Robbinsville – Tough opposition has given the Lady Knights fits over the past week.
A visit to Swain County on Sept. 4 was followed by back-to-back home matches against Smoky Mountain and Hayesville on Monday and Tuesday, with Robbinsville (7-4, 2-2) unable to find its way into the win column during the stretch.
The Knights fell 17-25, 18-25, 15-25 in their only road action to Swain County (5-5, 1-4), before Smoky Mountain (5-6) swept the season series against Robbinsville: 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-14.
In the Lady Knights' return to Smoky Mountain Conference action Tuesday, Hayesville (9-2, 3-1) collected a 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 sweep.
The schedule remains daunting, as Robbinsville travels to division-leading Cherokee (8-6, 5-0) today and Franklin (13-1) in non-league action Monday, Sept. 15.
The Knights return home Tuesday to face Rosman (3-5, 1-4) on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
JV, middle school
Entering Tuesday's match with Hayesville, the JV Lady Knights had a flawless mark on the season.
Robbinsville (10-0) needed three sets to dispose of Swain County on Sept. 4, but completed the deed 25-5, 14-25, 15-6. Victory was attained much easier Monday, with the Knights sweeping Smoky Mountain 19-25, 8-25.
Set scores for Tuesday's JV match were not received by Wednesday's press deadline.
Robbinsville Middle (3-2) got back in the win column after prevailing in thrilling fashion at Swain County: 25-22, 17-25, 15-13. The Lady Knights followed up by buzzing the visiting Lady Jackets on Tuesday 23-25, 20-25.
