Albemarle -- Playing the role of underdog Thursday, the Robbinsville Lady Knights went on the road for the second round of the playoffs.
And for the second time in three seasons, Robbinsville (No. 13, 19-8) knocked off a higher-seeded team.
Overcoming a 22-10 deficit at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Knights pushed Albemarle (No. 4, 22-5) right out of the postseason bracket by going on a 23-6 run before halftime and dictating the pace for the remainder, prevailing over the Lady Bulldogs 71-66.
Senior Desta Trammell exploded after a 3-point opening segment, finishing with 45 on the evening to lead Robbinsville's offense. Trammell now has 1,883 for her career.
Also scoring for the Lady Knights was Suri Watty, 8; Liz Carpenter and Kensley Phillips, 6 each; Aubrie Wachacha, 4; and Abby Wehr, 2.
Jasmine Brown's 22 points led the Albemarle offense. Bianca Robinson had 15, while Mary Grace Krol contributed 10. Finishing out the book for the Bulldogs was Nylelah White, 7; Amari Baldwin, 6; and Jordyn Crump and Kai Spencer, 3 apiece.
Robbinsville will grab some quick shut-eye at home, before heading back out to face Eastern Randolph (No. 5, 19-7) in the first of two Knights' playoff games against the Wildcats on Saturday. Check The Graham Star's Facebook and Twitter for an update on when the game will tip-off.
