Robbinsville boys place 3rd at ‘Falcon Frenzy’
Corryton, Tenn. – Don’t let the win/loss record fool you: the Lady Knights are making significant headway on the mat.
Robbinsville (3-8) dropped a pair of duals Dec. 10 at Gibbs High School in Tennessee, before logging more bout time Saturday at North Henderson’s Falcon Frenzy.
The Knights fell 48-18 to the hosting Eagles on Dec. 10 and 42-15 to Knoxville Halls. Latesha Orr (100 pounds), Alyssa Bohn (165) and Cecilia Maney (185) all prevailed via forfeit against Gibbs, while Orr pinned Libby Lee in the Knoxville Halls dual. Later in the match, Madison Cable (120) won a wild 23-17 decision over Blair Dumas and Cheyanne Geyer (145) pinned Hattie Wilson.
Robbinsville finished 14th in a 21-program race Saturday, posting 37 team points. Swain County won the Falcon Frenzy, scoring 116.5.
Bohn (12-8) was the lone placer for the Lady Knights, taking second in her division. Also donning a singlet for Robbinsville was Julia Vazquez (114, 7-15); Cable (6-9); Jacquline Gayosso (138, 7-16); Geyer (11-11); and Maney (5-14).
Thanks to Skyler Anderson and Lleyton Hooper conquering their divisions, Robbinsville’s boys soared to a third-place finish at the Falcon Frenzy.
Anderson (113, 23-2) pinned North Henderson’s Anthony Martinez and bested Enka’s Colton Farmer to win gold. Meanwhile, Hooper (144, 23-3) pinned McDowell’s Eli Smith; earned a 15-8 technical over Cape Fear’s Wesley Taylor; and won the finals bout against East Henderson’s Mason Maybin via injury default.
Adair Panama (120, 22-3) and Loxston Hooper (132, 23-3) captured second in their weight classes; while Ethan Webster (126, 20-12), Knox Orr (138, 11-11), Devin Hall (150, 18-10) and Luke Green (157, 8-5) all placed fourth. Jayce Grooms (175, 1-4) and Jonah Teesateskie (285, 5-6) also suited up.
Results were also made public for another dual from Dec. 10’s trek to Gibbs High School, as the Knights dropped a tough 40-28 match to the Eagles.
Christian Koeller (215) and Hall (157) both pinned their respective opponents Lane Rundles and Hayden White, while Landen Mantz (106) picked up a forfeit nod. Panama (126) earned a 19-6 major over Noah Eller and Bobby Moore (150) bested Jacob Lawson 10-3. Green (165) concluded the action by securing a 7-3 win against Austin Scruggs.
