Webster – Fresh off the losing end of a pitching duel, the Lady Knights took out their frustrations in a three-inning road game Monday.
Carrying a 3-2 lead as the game went into the top of the third, Robbinsville took off the kiddie gloves and unloaded 14 runs on Smoky Mountain.
The hosting Lady Mustangs could not muster a single reply in the home half of the inning, resulting in a run-shortened 17-2 triumph for the Knights.
Daphne Barlow, Khaygen Buchanan, Presley Caylor, Payton Odom, Suri Watty, Dreylee Webster and Anna Williams each had multi-hit games for Robbinsville (2-1). Odom turned in a four-RBI afternoon, while Watty batted in three runs.
Sophie Roberts also launched a two-run homer in the hectic third, the second long ball of the season for the Lady Knights.
Caylor got the starting nod inside the circle for Robbinsville, striking out four Smoky Mountain (1-6) batters and picking up her first win of the year in the process.
Duel defeat
Robbinsville – Games between the Lady Knights and the Enka Sugar Jets are usually highly competitive, with plenty of slugging to go around.
Friday’s showdown re-wrote the narrative, as it was simply a battle of wits between Robbinsville senior pitcher Naomi Taylor and Enka freshman hurler Savannah Frisbee.
Both ultimately tossed the exact same amount of pitches – 106 – but Frisbee prevailed by striking out 12 to Taylor’s five across the evening.
Enka needed just one run to support its starter and pick up a 1-0 victory on Judy Nichols Memorial Field.
Taylor (1-1) only surrendered six hits in the loss, with two of those proving costly. Kerigan Phillips singled with one down in the third and later dashed across the plate on a two-out hit off the bat of Haley Fish.
Robbinsville’s only hit off Frisbee came in the bottom of the fifth, when Ella Atwell singled right up the middle with two outs.
However, Daphne Barlow followed by lining the ball right back into Frisbee’s glove for the third out to end the Knights’ last threat of the game.
