Undefeated season ended by Sugar Jets
Robbinsville – The Lady Knights posted a graphic on their Facebook page shortly after incurring their first loss of the year April 15.
The final score of 12-2 was emblazoned across the screen, along with the words, "Remember this one. We will."
After shutting out Enka 5-0 in Candler on March 9, Robbinsville carried a 17-0 record into last week's return game with the Sugar Jets.
But it's obvious the visitors had also let the early-season loss marinate.
Without freshman sensation Ella Nelms – who is sidelined with a short-term injury – inside the circle, the Lady Knights were unable to contain Enka's offense. Sugar Jets sophomore Savannah Frisbee was locked in as well, striking out nine to end Robbinsville's perfect season in a six-inning victory on Judy Nichols Memorial Field.
Kynadee Spencer fell to 1-1 on the year in the loss, lasting just 3.2 innings for Robbinsville (17-1). Suri Watty pitched the remainder of the game, striking out one.
Daphne Barlow was responsible for the Lady Knights' only scoring hit, a two-run single that scored Spencer and Watty in the bottom of the sixth.
Enka (12-2) was carried by home runs from Baylee Edney and Kerigan Phillips; as well as doubles off the bats of Etta Dezio and Averi Coggins. Additionally, Phillips and Frisbee were both responsible for three RBIs at the plate.
