Robbinsville – Opponents are having a difficult time solving the riddle that is Lady Knights volleyball at the moment.
Bouncing back from a five-match losing streak in the best way possible, Robbinsville (10-6, 5-3) continued to make the most of its recent homestand by knocking off Tuscola and Andrews in succession Monday and Tuesday. The victories set the Lady Knights back on their first winning streak of the season since picking up five consecutive triumphs between Aug. 19 and Sept. 2.
The 4A Lady Mountaineers were Robbinsville's first victims of the year Aug. 11 – and very little changed when Tuscola (2-16) visited Graham County for the return match Monday: the Knights handled things 9-25, 12-25, 11-25.
Tuesday's pairing with Andrews (8-8, 3-6) almost looked to be a repeat of Robbinsville's only five-set match to date: a road win over the Lady Wildcats on Aug. 28. Instead, the Lady Knights sealed the deal in four sets Tuesday: 19-25, 29-31, 25-22, 22-25.
Robbinsville will travel to Murphy (7-7, 2-6) today.
JV, middle school
Robbinsville (12-2) stayed dominant in junior varsity action, defeating Tuscola 20-25, 15-25 on Monday and Andrews 23-25, 11-25 on Tuesday.
The middle school Lady Knights won their lone match of the week, sweeping the Lady Wildcats 22-25, 16-25. Final outcomes from recent matches have not been received by The Star; thus, Robbinsville Middle's overall record could not be confirmed by press time.
