Robbinsville – A lethal pitching combination of Kamden Driver and Carsan Snider mixed with some heavy bats to produce the middle school Black Knights' first win of the season March 13.
Dodging a pair of storm delays against the Copper Basin (Tenn.) Cougars, Robbinsville (2-3) zipped past the visitors 18-5 on Loudon Orr Memorial Field.
The Knights left very little trace on the basepath, only stranding four in the drubbing. David Guzman, Walker Lane, Canon Menard and Matt Woodard all doubled for Robbinsville, while Driver and Snider kept the Cougars tamed on the hill.
The return battle just one day later turned into a high-scoring affair, with Copper Basin emerging on the better end of a 14-10 outcome.
Conner Hyde, Snider and Woodard handled pitching duties across state lines, but the offense struggled to cash in as needed – leaving 11 on base. Robbinsville was shaky in the field as well, committing five errors.
The ship got back on course Tuesday, with an 11-10 walkoff victory over Andrews at home.
Driver found his way aboard with a hit, before Brayson Anderson dropped a squeeze bunt to catch the Cats napping. A wild throw to first allowed the speedy Driver to score and knot the game at 10-10, before Hyde made a solid connection to bring Anderson home and bring out Robbinsville to dance at home plate.
Lady Knights
Robbinsville (4-1) outscored Copper Basin in the softball series last week 37-2, with the home game ending in a 16-1 final and Friday's road trip concluding with a 21-1 win.
The Lady Knights wasted no time March 13, plating five in the bottom of the first. Myah Winfrey tripled home Lakin Orr, before Winfrey scored on an error moments later. Ella Nelms soon charged home on an error, while Bristol Odom grounded out to plate Natalee Myers. Allie Phillips later charged in on a two-out error to pause the scoring.
Nelms doubled to bring home Winfrey in the second, before things got carried away again in the third. Makenna Stewart grounded out to score Bailee Odom, while Orr reached on an infield single that drove in Mylee Webster. Myers later roped a two-run double, prior to Nelms charging across the dish on a wild pitch.
Refusing to let up, Orr hit a one-out double to usher in Bella Ford in the fourth. Winfrey grounded out to score Haizleigh Driver, while Nelms reached on an infield hit that brought in Orr. Myers went on to hit another two-run double that finally put a cap on Robbinsville's flurry.
The Knights fell 8-5 on Tuesday to Andrews. Stats from the game were not available by press time.
