Hayesville – With the top scorer back from a harrowing injury – and already showing flashes of brilliance – it is probably a good thing for opponents that the Robbinsville Middle School Black Knights have a Christmas break ahead.
Their latest foray carried the program to Clay County on Dec. 15, which saw Cameron Allison’s 22-point evening bolster a 56-42 win over Hayesville.
Allison sustained a concussion after an on-court attack by a Swain County player Nov. 21. He returned Dec. 8 at Andrews, scoring 12 on the Wildcats in another Knights’ victory.
Robbinsville (7-3) also benefitted immensely from separate, 8-point evenings off the hands of both Tucker Jones and Eli Lambert; seven points, courtesy of Bam Nelms; a 6-point effort, thanks to Elijah Kirkland; plus Easton Shuler’s 3 and Xamuel Wachacha’s bucket to round out its offense.
The Lady Knights (5-5) have already quadrupled their win total from last year’s campaign, but fell back to .500 with a 29-22 loss to the Lady Jackets.
Zayleigh Chekeleelee had five points for Robbinsville, while Daphne Barlow, Novie Dutcher and Zaelyn Phillips each dropped four on Hayesville. Chloe Adams posted three and Zachlan Chekeleelee scored a bucket to fill out the scoreline.
Robbinsville Middle School’s regular season wraps up with a home tilt against Swain County on Thursday, Jan. 5, with a road trip to Murphy on Monday, Jan. 9.
Murphy will then host the championship tournament, which begins Saturday, Jan. 14, and concludes Thursday, Jan. 19.
