Robbinsville – The Lady Knights were barely able to display the breadth of their talent in Tuesday’s season opener.
In a quick 3-inning premiere, Robbinsville (1-0) toppled Murphy 16-0 on Judy Nichols Memorial Field.
The Lady Knights only recorded four hits in the game: two from Loxley Burke – an RBI double in the lengthy bottom of the first and a one-out hit in the second; a two-out, 2-run double off lefty Khaygen Buchanan in the second; and an RBI single from starting pitcher Presley Caylor, who fanned five Murphy hopefuls.
The rest of the runs can be chalked up to control issues from the rubber. The Lady Bulldogs’ gave up 12 runs to Robbinsville in the first inning alone – mostly off wild pitches. Daphne Barlow was plunked twice in the game, while a whopping 10 walks were issued between two Murphy pitchers in the first
Kynadee Spencer struck out the side in relief in the third.
Across the campus, Robbinsville (0-1) could not siphon the offensive energy from the softball diamond, as the Black Knights dropped their 2023 opener to Murphy in four innings, 23-3.
