Bryson City – A clean sweep of Swain County by Robbinsville on Dec. 5 was followed by a shaky showing at home Monday.
The middle school Lady Knights (5-4) exorcised the Devils 54-16, while the Black Knights (4-5) cast out the demons 47-44.
Zayleigh Chekelelee was the top scorer for Robbinsville’s girls, producing 17 points in the win. Also scoring was Natalie Swimmer 10; McKynlee Adams, Lakin Orr and Ella Nelms, 4 each; Brooke Cox, Myah Winfrey and Aaliyah Wolfe, 3 apiece; Zachlan Chekelelee and Emily Jones, 2 each; and both Bentley Lambert and Kyla Garland connected for one free throw each.
Carsan Snider edged his teammate Brayden Allison for the boys’ team lead in points, outscoring his classmate 19-17. Others to score for Robbinsville was David Guzman 5; Trevor Jenkins 3; and both Dayton Weaver and Micah York, 2 each.
Home struggles
Robbinsville – Back inside its friendly confines Monday, both teams were hoping to make a strong case against Murphy.
Instead, the Lady Knights fell 50-38 and the Black Knights were downed 49-40.
Despite the loss, Zayleigh Chekelelee still managed to put 21 points up for Robbinsville’s girls. Other Lady Knights to score were Wolfe 6, Nelms 5, Haizleigh Driver 4 and Winfrey 2.
The boys’ defeat was led by Allison’s 14-point evening.
Also scoring for Robbinsville was Jenkins 11; Snider 9; Guzman 4; and York 2.
