Senior makes history as Robbinsville closes in on pennant
Robbinsville – It was business as usual for Robbinsville (18-2, 10-0), which posted a pair of 5-inning, lopsided home victories.
A 10-0 blanking of Hayesville (1-14, 1-10) on Friday was eclipsed by a 14-4 disposal of Hiwassee Dam (7-7, 5-5) in a make-up affair Monday.
Robbinsville has perhaps its strongest team since the magical 2019 line-up that reached the 1A Western Regional finals – and yet another key piece of evidence to aid that argument was submitted Monday, when Memory Frapp pitched three innings of relief and struck out five Lady Eagles. The first afforded the senior the distinction of “strikeout queen,” as Frapp surpassed Jerri Anna Roper (351 between 2016-19) and by Wednesday’s press deadline, has 356 under her belt.
The Lady Knights quickly expanded on a slim 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the second Monday, promptly unloading 12 runs on the Lady Eagles to round out Robbinsville’s contributions to the scoreboard.
Amid the win, Zoie Shuler blasted her ninth homer of the year and Sophie Roberts slugged her eighth. Suri Watty tripled for the second time this season, while Sydney Adams doubled and Anna Williams drove in three runs.
Naomi Taylor (7-1) started the game and earned the win after clocking out with two innings of work on her time card.
Robbinsville systematically built to its crescendo while hosting the Lady Jackets. Frapp smacked her fourth home run of the campaign in the victory, while Taylor and Watty both doubled.
Frapp (9-0) tied the program’s strikeout record by shutting down six Hayesville batters in the game.
This week’s regular-season wrap-up with Murphy (12-3, 9-1) was altered due to weather. Instead of the original plan, the Lady Knights traveled to face the Bulldogs after Wednesday’s press deadline and will now host Murphy at 5 p.m., today, for Senior Night.
