Robbinsville – In what was Robbinsville Middle School’s final games for two weeks – the fallout of an 8th-grade coastal trip and Spring Break – the Knights could not manufacture a season split with Cherokee.
The Lady Knights fell 10-3 on Judy Nichols Memorial Field on Friday, while the Black Knights lost a 6-5 heartbreaker on the other side of the campus at Loudon Orr Memorial Field.
On the softball diamond, Cherokee led 2-0 until the bottom of the third. Robbinsville (3-2) promptly tied the affair on back-to-back, 2-out hits: a triple from Daphne Barlow – which scored Loxley Burke, who had drawn a walk – and a Kynadee Spencer single, which allowed Barlow to jog home.
The Braves put three on the board in the fourth to respond, with the Lady Knights’ final offering coming in the bottom of the inning. Payton Odom roped a flyout to right field, which scored Ella Atwell. Cherokee went on to get the run back in the fifth and sealed the deal in the seventh, taking advantage of three Robbinsville errors to pull four more runs to home plate.
Hit leaders from the baseball loss were not available by Wednesday’s press deadline. Robbinsville is 0-5 this season.
Robbinsville Middle will next begin a week-long association with Andrews, welcoming the Wildcats on Tuesday, April 18; before traveling to Cherokee County to face the Cats on Friday, April 21.
