Lady Knights hit 2-game skid on the road
Back-to-back road losses Monday and Tuesday dampened a 4-0 start for the Robbinsville Lady Knights.
It was a struggle from the opening tip-off at Hiwassee Dam (6-2), as Robbinsville (4-2, 1-1) fought all evening to make an inside presence against the Lady Eagles.
Despite Abby Wehr recording a double-double by knocking down 24 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, it was not enough to help the Knights maintain their flawless campaign – as the hosts picked up a 64-50 win.
One night later, Robbinsville found itself at the Ken Solesbee Athletic Center in Andrews (4-3, 1-1). A see-saw affair throughout, the Lady Knights ultimately came out on the losing end of a 56-54 outcome.
In addition to Wehr's performance Monday, Liz Carpenter had 11 points.
Also scoring was Maleah Cox and Zaelyn Phillips, 5 each; Bentley Riggins and Anna Williams, 2 apiece; and Claire Barlow 1.
Riggins delivered a strong beating to the boards Tuesday, connecting for 22 against the Lady Wildcats.
Others on the scoreline were Carpenter 11; Suri Watty 10; Phillips 6; Wehr 4; and Williams 1.
Obedience training
Robbinsville – The losses were a stark contrast to Friday's conference opener, as the Lady Knights leapt ahead in the first quarter and cruised to a 59-34 win over the Murphy Lady Bulldogs.
Carpenter was responsible for Robbinsville's first 11 points in the game, crashing the interior for five rebounds in the opening segment to aid the showing. She went on to finish the game with a double-double: 18 points, 10 rebounds.
The lead over Murphy (1-2, 0-1) continued to exponentially grow from the 14-4 jumpstart, morphing into a 32-12 nod at halftime and a 48-23 advantage at the outset of the fourth.
Also scoring for Robbinsville was Phillips 9; Watty and Wehr, 8 each; Riggins 5; Barlow and Williams, 4 apiece; and Jozlyn Garland 3.
Junior varsity
The Lady Knights (2-1) experienced mixed results in JV play, as Robbinsville fell 62-24 to Murphy before running away with a 35-4 win against Andrews.
Tiara Welch compiled 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead the Knights on Friday. Also scoring was Emery Beasley 5; Novie Dutcher and Ella McGuire, 3 each; and Bella Coats 2.
Cassidy Sudderth had bragging rights after Tuesday's win, scoring nine on the Cats. Others peppering the scoreboard were Dutcher and MyKayla McGuire, 7 each; Emory Chekelelee and Welch, 3 apiece; and Beasley, Coats and Chasity Jones, one bucket each.
