Black Knights conclude summer workouts
Robbinsville – If Monday's exhibitions are any indication, another Smoky Mountain Conference title could very well be in the immediate future of Black Knights basketball.
Hosting Murphy and Andrews for a pair of scrimmages, Robbinsville went through its playbook with a roster of 10 at its disposal. The session included four quarters with no halftimes and each segment had a 10-minute running clock. Each program also sent its junior varsity squads onto the floor for some additional reps.
The Knights have taken divisional titles in two of the last three seasons and after wrapping up an 18-game summer session Monday, look poised to attain yet another in February.
"I'm very pleased with where we're at for the summer," said Robbinsville head coach Jake Beasley. "We've played quite a bit; I'm a firm believer at getting better in the offseason. We've played a lot of quality competition with very low numbers, which has allowed a lot of our kids to get a lot of experience at the varsity level. That will help us a lot next year."
The scrimmage came after the Knights spent three days at Polk County (Tenn.), logging 16 games against various opponents – including Tellico Plains (Tenn.), a 20-win program that returned several starters for the workout.
"We were about dead-even with them. I was extremely pleased with that," Beasley said. "With who we have coming back – and who we have coming up – I do feel like it is going to be another really good year.”
