In a pair of one-run heartbreakers, Robbinsville simply ran out of chances to execute when it needed to the most.
The Black Knights hosted – then traveled to – Andrews for their latest, respective slate of baseball action Friday and Monday. Robbinsville (2-4, 2-4) saw its comeback bid stopped short at home in a 5-4 loss, before the Wildcats walked off with a 6-5 win a Monday.
Kelby Waldroup scored on a second-inning error for Andrews (10-0, 5-0) to start Friday's back-and-forth foray. Benton Gibby knotted the proceedings up 1-1 in the bottom of the third, singling to bring in Everett Taylor. The Cats pounced back out front in the fourth, when Ethan Sutton flew out to usher home Aiden Garrett and Waldroup raked a hit to score Logan Hyde. The latter provided some insurance with a two-run, fifth-inning single, harkening courtesy runner Cade Parker and Logan Shuler across the dish.
Rylen Orr drove in Luke Lovin on a two-out hit in the fifth, before Taylor and Lovin both sprinted home on an error in the bottom of the seventh – moments before a grounder ended the rally.
Orr dropped to 1-2 on the year, but fanned eight Wildcats.
Robbinsville put up four runs in the third Monday, tacking on another for good measure in the fourth. Easton Shuler and Orr both doubled in the game. The Wildcats mustered their first reply in the home half of the fourth, before thundering back with four of their own to tie it up in the sixth. Andrews then scored the walk-off run in the seventh.
Lovin (1-1) lasted 5 ⅔ innings on the hill, but struck out 13 Andrews batters in the process.
