Middle school Knights unable to conquer Mustangs
Sylva – For the first time in recent memory, Robbinsville met Smoky Mountain for middle school basketball action.
Tuesday’s venture to Jackson County ended with a mixed bag of results, as the Lady Knights (1-2) fell 41-30 to the Lady Mustangs; while the Black Knights dropped to 2-1 by falling 30-25.
Both Brayden Allison and Peyton Weaver paced Robbinsville’s boys with eight points each in the game. Carsan Snider swished a pair of trey’s, while Trever Jenkins turned in three points to round out the Black Knights’ book.
Zachlan Chekeleelee bested her sibling Zayleigh for Robbinsville’s team lead in points, connecting for 11 to Zayleigh’s 10. Others to contribute to the cause were Aaliyah Wolfe 4, Brooke Cox 3 and Lakin Orr 2.
Half a treat
Murphy – The Black Knights won Nov. 7’s road opener in a comeback bid, erasing a halftime deficit with a 21-8 third stanza and going on to defeat the Murphy Bulldogs 45-33.
Allison led Robbinsville with 19 points. Snider posted 12, while Weaver added six. Rounding out the scoreline was Jenkins 4, as well as Landon Silvers and Micah York with a basket each.
Brady Watson hit a trio of first-half three’s and ultimately finished with a Bulldogs-high 10 points.
Murphy seized control early in the girls opener and never looked back, handing Robbinsville its first loss of the year in a 52-34 defeat.
Zayleigh Chekeleelee was the only Lady Knight in double-digits, dropping 12 for Robbinsville. Cox, Orr and Myah Winfrey each deposited four points; while Zachlan Chekeleelee, Haizleigh Driver, Kyla Garland, Natalie Swimmer and Wolfe all recorded two apiece.
C.J. Yarbro led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 on her scoreline.
