Middle school girls buzz Jackets
Robbinsville – The middle school Lady Knights quickly reversed what looked to be a post-Thanksgiving lull Monday, drubbing Hayesville 51-36 at Robbinsville Elementary School.
Competing for the first time since Nov. 21, Robbinsville (4-3) had fell into a 17-9 hole against the Lady Jackets by the outset of the second quarter. A few spirited reminders from the coaching staff later and a proverbial revival broke out, as the Knights promptly went on a 13-1 sprint in the second segment to pull ahead 22-18 at halftime.
Robbinsville outpaced Hayesville 17-12 in the third and took full advantage of the visitors faltering in the fourth to pick up the win.
Not hurting the cause was a 22-point showing from eighth-grade point guard Zayleigh Chekelelee. Aaliyah Wolfe connected for 11, while Zachlan Chekelelee recorded seven.
Rounding out the Knights’ scorebook was McKynlee Adams and Ella Nelms, 4 each; Haizleigh Driver 2; and Myah Winfrey 1.
Black Knights
Robbinsville was unable to hang onto its halftime lead in the boys game, eventually dropping to 3-4 in a 47-37 loss to Hayesville.
Carsan Snider led the Black Knights with nine points. Both Braydon Allison and Peyton Weaver posted seven apiece, while David Guzman and Landon Silvers contributed five each.
Trevor Jenkins also scored four to close out the scoreline.
