Robbinsville shooting team competes for first time in 2 years
Marble – Another chapter in the long-sought quest to return to normalcy was written Saturday, as shooting teams from around the region competed in the FarWest Tournament at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Shooting Range.
The competition ended a two-year drought for western North Carolina shooting teams and was attended by 14 teams, split evenly between middle and high school shooters.
When the smoke finally dissipated, Andrews edged Pisgah – with 2,890 team points, to Pisgah’s 2,887 – to win the high school bracket. Bethel (Waynesville) compiled 2,807 to knock off the Andrews Red team (2,734) in the middle school race.
Robbinsville took sixth in the high school competition, accumulating 2,404 points. And with just four members, recorded a 1,376 in the middle school bracket.
Ryan Lynn led the Robbinsville High program with 549 individual points. Lynn scored a 192 in archery, 187 in rifle and 170 in trap. Overall, Lynn finished 17th.
For Robbinsville Middle, Kyla Jenkins posted a 396 on the day. Jenkins shot a 139 in rifle, 137 in archery and 120 in trap.
Robbinsville will travel to Canton on Saturday for the Midwest Competition.
