Lady Knights senior signs with Maryville Scots
Robbinsville – The softball career of Naomi Taylor will continue beyond high school.
The ace of the Lady Knights' rotation signed Monday with Maryville (Tenn.) College, an NCAA Division III program connected directly to Robbinsville via U.S. 129. As of now, the Scots compete in the Collegiate Conference of the South, but will join the Southern Athletic Association in 2027.
"I'm really excited to play," Taylor said. "I'm glad I'm not done and I can keep working at it. I've always wanted to play for as long as I could."
Currently 12-2 this season, Taylor boasts a 1.28 ERA and 83 strikeouts. Taylor also holds the team lead in home runs, launching three so far.
She has played softball since beginning her career as a Cherokee Maverick at the age of eight and – aside from a one-season stint in basketball – has focused solely on the sport since.
"I love the team aspect, but I also fell in love with pitching," said Taylor. "I love the control I have in every game."
Once she paid a visit to Maryville College, she knew her college plans had been solidified.
"I love the area and I meshed really well with the coaches," Taylor explained. "I like the energy, because I knew that not only we will have fun, but we will work really hard to win."
Taylor plans to major in English, with a career in publishing as her end goal.
