Robbinsville – With 2:30 left in the first quarter of Tuesday’s home game against Swain County, Lady Knights junior point guard Desta Trammell dished the ball to classmate and lifelong friend/teammate Kensley Phillips in the corner.
Phillips quickly kicked the ball back to Trammell, who promptly drained a patented 3-pointer. But the trey was unlike any other she had ever made: it etched her name in the 1,000-point club.
“Reaching my 1,000th point tonight is very exciting and something that I have been working towards for a long time, but there is no way that I would be able to do it without my teammates,” Trammell said. “Even though I did reach 1,000, that does not compare to the way the rest of my team played tonight.”
At the end of the night, Trammell stood at 1,009 for her career.
And counting.
