Abby Wehr made sure that Robbinsville's first conference loss of the season didn't linger for long.
One night removed from a tough 55-46 road loss to Andrews, the Lady Knights senior unleashed a 30-point showcase at Smoky Mountain on Saturday. Wehr nailed four shots from beyond the arc; six from inside; and was 9-of-12 (75%) from the foul line in Robbinsville's 64-52, non-conference win over the Lady Mustangs.
Point guard Zayleigh Chekelelee backed up the effort with a foursome of 3's, as well, as the freshman tallied 14 in the victory over Smoky Mountain (7-6). Others to score were Zaelyn Phillips 8; Zachlan Chekelelee 6; Aaliyah Wolfe 3; Novie Dutcher 2; and Bentley Riggins 1.
Kiesira Ensley led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points.
Robbinsville (4-4, 0-1) coughed up an 11-2 start over the Lady Wildcats, with Andrews nipping at the Knights' heels throughout the second and third quarters. After trailing 20-19 at halftime and 36-35 at the end of the third quarter, the Cats pounced into the driver's seat with a 20-10 run down the stretch to claim the victory.
Phillips led Robbinsville with 15 points. Also scoring was Riggins 10; Wolfe 8; Zayleigh Chekelelee 5; and both Zachlan Chekelelee and Wehr, 4 apiece.
Knox Davis had a team-high 21 points to help lift Andrews (8-3, 2-0) to the win.
The Knights fell to 2-2 against Little Smoky Mountain Conference opponents on Tuesday, dropping a 53-50 heartbreaker at home to Hiwassee Dam (7-4).
Riggins emerged as the leading Robbinsville scorer in the game, controlling the paint with a 15-point evening. Others to score were Wehr and Wolfe, 10 each; Zayleigh Chekelelee 6; Phillips 4; Zachlan Chekelelee 3; and Dutcher 2.
Brinkley Payne put up 26 for the Lady Eagles.
Junior varsity
Robbinsville (3-1) took care of Andrews and Hiwassee Dam in junior varsity action over the recent stretch.
The Lady Knights edged the Wildcats, 25-24. Brooklyn Cox led Robbinsville with 13 points, while Haizleigh Driver posted the remaining 12.
Driver had 18 to lead the charge in Tuesday's 47-29 win over the Lady Eagles.
Also scoring was Cox 12; Emory Chekelelee 8; Emery Beasley 5; and Bella Coats 4.
Robbinsville couldn't get out of first gear Saturday, falling 26-16 at Smoky Mountain. Cox scored nine, while Driver had four and Chekelelee added three.
