* When the board governing the community center north of the Ted Jordan Bridge changed its name to the Pine Ridge Community Center, the volunteer fire department followed suit. The Town of Lake Santeetlah questioned the name change, especially since the center was originally named for the lake, not the town.

* Students from the art department of Robbinsville High School received checks from the Graham County Woman’s Club in its recent art contest. Pictured were first-place winner Jasmine Phillips; second-place co-winners Brook Waldroup and Kaleb Williams; third-place winner Leah Stewart; and art instructor Brenda Williams.

* The junior varsity Black Knights came together as a team and defeated Andrews, winning by a score of 7-2. The Knights outstanding teamwork proved necessary in this hard-fought battle.

* General Manager of Fontana Village Resort Richard Immel, announced April 23-27 as the dates for “Spring Nature Walks.” The latter week of April was chosen to be most fitting to explore this region for spring flowers, “with which the area was so blessed.” The group also decided to gather again in the Fall of 1973.

* The Batoon-Corregidor Veterans held their tenth annual reunion at Fontana Village Resort. About 300 veterans gathered with their families. Colonel Roy M. O’Day of Seattle, Wash., was the guest of honor.

* Kenneth Burchfield and Rex Jenkins of Fontana Dam displayed a nice catch they had made on Fontana Lake on the front page of this edition. The heaviest large-mouth bass weighed just under four pounds. The lake was the scene for the Fontana Fishing Contest.
