William Lon Wiggins
Fontana Dam – A pair of Graham County Sheriff’s Office detectives thankfully needed just 24 hours this week to solve an alleged kidnapping case.
After a report came into the office about a missing person Sunday, officers were dispatched Monday afternoon to the Fontana Dam Town Hall (formerly the administration building and even a hospital, during the construction of the dam).
The town itself operates out of the front portion of the facility, but the structure is split with housing for seasonal employees in the back.
It was in the housing unit that county detective Travis Brooks was directed to a locked door. He knocked.
A cry for help rang out.
Brooks and detective Jordan Collins broke into the room and found the missing person – a 24-year-old female, who will not be named in this report – tied to a bed. Brooks and Jordan requested medical treatment and administered first aid on the victim until she was transported to an area hospital.
The detectives swiftly identified a suspect in the case, 21-year-old William Lon Wiggins, who was working at Fontana Village. He was arrested and charged with domestic violence.
Felony charges of kidnapping and restraint were added late-Monday evening.
Bond was set after Wednesday’s press deadline.
The sheriff’s office told The Graham Star that the investigation was still active and other charges could be forthcoming.
Wiggins’ employment status with Fontana Village was unclear at press time.
