Robbinsville – Delaying the third installment of “Graham County’s Got Talent” did little to hurt the effort.
Originally penciled in for Sept. 28, the annual Graham Cancer Support Group fundraiser went off without a hitch Saturday at Robbinsville High School. Through artist entries, dinner sales, raffle and silent-auction funds, tickets purchased by the public and monetary donations, the evening raised $7,043 for the local non-profit.
The meat of the evening was inside the school’s auditorium, where local dancers and singers graced the stage in an attempt to win a vote from the panel of five judges. Categories were dance, youth, pop/rock, gospel and country/bluegrass; many performers competed in more than one genre for a chance at bragging rights.
The winners for each category are as follows:
* Dance: Addie Mintz and Isla Dupree;
* Youth: The Shepherd’s Call Baptist Church Youth Choir;
* Pop/Rock: Grace Anderson and Will Phillips;
* Gospel: Jernie Greene and Brinley Holder; and
* Country/Bluegrass: Nathan Benton.
Before the fun commenced, Graham Cancer Support president Marg Lewis updated those in attendance on how much the group has been able to aid those who are battling the disease. Since being formed Aug. 1, 2019, the 501(c)3 has aided 137 different patients in the county, thanks to raising $157,400. Patients receive assistance on everything from bills to travel expenses; as well as clothing and food.
The group is not done for the year, either. A 2012 Nissan Maxima SV is being sold via raffle tickets, which are $20 individually or $100 for seven. The car will be gifted during the Robbinsville Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Client-intake forms can be picked up at various locations across the county, including The Graham Star office.
