Brandon Jones
Fontana Dam – Town of Fontana Dam officials are searching for a replacement for Town Councilman Brandon Jones, who resigned in June after serving just a few months on the board.
Jones was appointed to the board in December to fill a vacancy, but soon realized the time spent at his day job – managing Fontana Village Marina – was conflicting with time he should be spending serving on the council.
“I’ve been too busy,” Jones told The Graham Star. “I had no time to make it to the meetings. … Summer has been super busy, and I thought it would be better for them to have someone who could be at the meetings.”
The Town Council meets monthly at 5:30 p.m., whereas the marina stays open until 8 p.m.
Town Administrator/Clerk Zelerie Rogers said the council has approached four people as prospects to replace Jones and is reaching out to them.
The town is Graham County’s smallest municipality by population. The town was incorporated in 2011 and has a full-time population of 33 according to some sources – but the 2020 Census put the population at 13.
Mayor Rob Hardy is the only remaining member on the council since the November 2019 election. There have been four resignations since that time for the four-year-term seat.
