Wolf Creek – In spite of recent heavy rainfall, a few days of wind and sun has dried the woods enough to burn already.
The Graham County 911 dispatch received a report of a brush fire out of control around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. A landowner was burning brush in his backyard in the Wolf Creek Heights section near Stecoah when the fire escaped and began burning out of control.
Firefighters with the Stecoah Fire Department and N.C. Forest Service responded and were able to control the fire after it burned less than one acre. N.C. Forest Service Ranger Frank Cline reported that the Stecoah Fire Department’s quick response to the fire was instrumental in its being controlled so soon.
