Robbinsville – In the last five months, the Graham Cancer Support Group has given out $15,750 to those battling the disease.
The staggering statistic was presented during treasurer Pam Shaffer’s presentation at the group’s June 9 meeting. Shaffer said that $55,555 has been distributed since the group’s formation.
Fundraising efforts are still rolling along – with the group’s targeted focus on the inaugural “Graham’s Got Talent” event, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, at Robbinsville High School. Tickets will be available soon for a pre-show spaghetti dinner, which will be held in the Commons Area at the school.
Five categories – country/bluegrass, gospel, instrumental, pop and rock – will be open for contestants of all ages. Judges for the contest will be Robbinsville High School Band Director Amber Watkins, The Graham Star Publisher/Editor Kevin Hensley, Mark Williams, Slade Trammell and Sophie Trammell. Todd Odom will emcee the event.
The group also plans to raffle tickets for lawn mowers at the Graham County Heritage Festival, which will be held Friday and Saturday, July 1-2.
