Robbinsville – The Graham Cancer Support Group has found a new home for a great cause.
A care room is open for anyone that has battled the disease – today or in the past – at the Graham County Community Building, just inside the front lobby at the door on the left.
Jimmie Holder – on behalf of the group – told The Graham Star that the room is stocked with wigs, hats, scarfs, bras, camisoles, leggings and throws. There is no charge for the items.
The room can be accessed Monday through Friday, by calling either Holder (828-479-8796) or Loretta Phillips (828-479-3496).
Talent show
At the group’s May 12 meeting, plans for the upcoming “Graham’s Got Talent” event continued to evolve.
The inaugural show will take place at Robbinsville High School on Saturday, Aug. 20. The group is looking for donations – with Alderman Brian Johnson pledging that the Town of Robbinsville would give $500 – and is also discussing using the nearby Robbinsville United Methodist Church for the dinner-portion of the event.
Five categories – country/bluegrass, gospel, instrumental, pop and rock – will be open for contestants of all ages. Todd Odom will emcee the evening, while Robbinsville High School band director Amber Watkins and Kevin Hensley, publisher and editor of The Graham Star, will be judges.
Also at the meeting, in the absence of Pam Shaffer – who was unable to attend the meeting – secretary Tressie Phillips presented the treasurer’s report, noting that the group has disbursed $50,400 to cancer patients since its inception.
