Former queen named Grand Marshal of parade
Robbinsville – In 1991, she was crowned Miss Black Knight.
At the time, Crystal Medlin had no idea the impact Robbinsville High School would continue to have on her life.
Now Crystal White, the beloved math teacher has been selected as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Homecoming Parade.
As she begins her 30th year in education, she reflected on what a blessing Robbinsville High School has been to her.
After graduating from high school as the 1992 salutatorian, she attended Western Carolina University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Secondary Math Education in 1996. She received her National Board Certification in 2002, then continued her education, completing a Master’s in Comprehensive Education – with a focus in Math – in 2003.
White was at Andrews High School for 11 years and spent one year teaching eighth-grade math at Andrews Middle School before she joined Graham County Schools. She began her teaching career in Graham County as a fifth-grade math teacher, where she remained for three years before joining the teaching staff at Robbinsville High School. She has continued to teach high school math, including Math 3, AP Calculus and Precalculus (through Tri-County Community College).
White has not only dedicated her life to teaching students, but she has also poured her love and energy into school clubs and organizations, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Math Club and Pep Club. She also helps with the homecoming, prom and graduation ceremonies.
White is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma – an international professional honor society for women educators – and a member of Vengeance Creek Baptist Church.
She and her husband Kevin – also an educator – will celebrate their 29th anniversary this year. She is a mother to Colby (married to Jill West White); Kadin (engaged to Casey Corpening); and Carson (dating Rachel Dobbs).
White is also the proud grandmother of Everly White and Waylon Dobbs.
“I feel honored, but undeserving to have been chosen as Grand Marshal of the Homecoming Parade,” White said. “I love Graham County Schools and I am proud to be a Black Knight. I feel God has given me an opportunity to serve Him through my work in education and I am thankful to have had a small part of my students’ journey.
“Go Black Knights!”
The Graham Star has tenative plans to livestream Friday’s homecoming parade on its Facebook page.
