Trammell crowned Miss Black Knight
Robbinsville – Ten members of the senior class experienced a whirlwind Friday.
Hair. Nails. Make-up. A parade. Pause for five seconds, then don a dress for photos. Before you know it, halftime arrives and it is time to await the outcome of a vote from your peers.
So when Destanee Shay Trammell’s name was announced as Miss Black Knight 2022-23, she was able to finally breathe a sigh of relief.
“I’m so shocked, but I’m so thankful and excited,” a stunned Trammell said, moments after walking off the field.
The daughter of Ritchie and Kimm Trammell, Desta’s athletic prowess has been well-documented. She was named the Smoky Mountain Conference Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the 2020-21 season and entering her senior year, has already posted 1,209 points as the Lady Knights’ point guard. She also joined the volleyball team for her swan song, filling the ever-important role of setter.
But believe it or not, Desta has interests outside the gymnasium. She is an active member of Robbinsville High School’s Beta, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), Friends of the Athletes, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) and Knightmares clubs. She currently attends Robbinsville First Baptist Church.
Surrounded by the classmates who she has grown up around, Desta was humbled by her selection as homecoming queen.
“This was so wonderful,” said Desta. “Everyone looked so beautiful and there’s nobody else I would rather be on the court with than these girls.”
