Santeetlah – The Graham County 911 Center received a report of a fire spreading out of control around 2 p.m. Dec. 29.
Firefighters with the Graham County and Santeetlah Fire departments, N.C. Forest Service and U.S. Forest Service responded to Golf Course Circle off U.S. 129 North, where a fire was burning in yard grass and leaves.
The fire was controlled at less than one acre, but did burn up to the foundation of the home before being stopped.
N.C. Forest Service Ranger Frank Cline said the fire started when the homeowner dumped ashes in the edge of the yard, which contained embers.
