Local support group maps out more fundraising efforts
Robbinsville – As part of National Volunteer Week, the Graham Cancer Support Group has solidified a day to “Live Like Kortne.”
Kortne passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer Dec. 31. The daughter of Dee and Tonia Walsh, Kortne’s legacy will continue on through a Community Service Project.
The Graham Cancer Support Group announced its plan for the community project at its March 24 meeting, though what the project will entail has yet to be determined.
As part of its continued effort to raise funds that will be distributed to local patients fighting the disease, the support group also discussed the gameplan for the scheduled, first-ever “Graham County’s Got Talent” event.
The date is penciled in for August 20, at Robbinsville High School. Five categories – country/bluegrass, gospel, instrumental, pop and rock – will be open for contestants of all ages.
Todd Odom will emcee this event, while Robbinsville High School band director Amber Watkins and Kevin Hensley, publisher and editor of The Graham Star, will be judges.
