Lake Santeetlah – A long-awaited development in the Town of Lake Santeetlah may be closer to being realized.
Developer Jose Rosado gave an update on the Santeetlah Lakeside Condominium project at the monthly council meeting on March 11. He said the final drawings for the Santeetlah Lakeside Development had been approved and that his firm was currently seeking out a contractor to build the complex along the lakeshore.
Rosado noted that a groundbreaking could come as soon as April.
“Right now we’re just going through a lot of processes with the engineering and the sewer system, finalizing the drawings on the building,” Rosado said.
He said there had been a lot of interest in the project, with six of 10 units reserved at this time. Rosado added that his firm planned to meet with two local contractors on Wednesday.
However, he said finding labor would be difficult, with most area construction companies and personnel involved in several projects.
Rosado also dispelled some concerns about parking and maneuvering heavy construction equipment in the small town.
“We have a big area that we can stage in,” he said.
The board also voted 3-1 to allocate $1,000 for water quality testing in the lake. The testing would be done a few times a year on days when large numbers of people use the lake including the 4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day and other events.
“We may do more if we find we have a problem area,” said councilman Roger Carlton.
Carlton also volunteered his personal boat to conduct the tests at no charge to the town.
The cost from Earth Environmental services will be $25 each per sample for biochemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen and fecal coliform and $10 for turbidity. A fee of $100 per sampling event will also apply.
Additionally, the council voted 4-0 to officially hire Bryan Farley as the town’s part-time zoning ordinance officer at $45 per hour.
“It’s cheaper than our lawyer,” Carlton said.
