Lake Santeetlah feels minor earthquake

Lake Santeetlah – Nearly one year to the date that Graham County felt a 4.1-magnitude earthquake, another spread tremors throughout one municipality.The United States Geological Survey confirmed that a 2.2-magnitude earthquake was detected around 12:26 a.m.

Votes gained, but seats remain same after provisionals

Robbinsville – Friday's unsealing of the 2025 municipal election provisional ballots resulted in candidates for Robbinsville's board of aldermen and mayor races all receiving additional nods of approval from constituents, but not enough to change the outcome of Nov. 4's unofficial results.

Municipal races finalized

A total of 20 local residents threw their names in the hat for the 2025 municipal elections.  The filing period closed at noon Friday, with the following candidates emerging as contenders for the Nov. 4 ballot.

Man drowns at Cheoah Beach

Lake Santeetlah – A 63-year-old employee working on the Corridor K project in Graham County drowned at Lake Santeetlah’s Cheoah Beach around 6:20 p.m. Saturday. According to three different eyewitness accounts, Chester Coleman became distressed and started yelling for assistance while in the water.
