Lake Santeetlah appoints new council member

Lake Santeetlah – The town wasted little time filling its vacant council seat. Following the resignation of Craig Keith on July 17, the council unanimously appointed Kevin Haag as his replacement during the Aug. 13 meeting via Zoom.

Frances Whitehead

Frances Whitehead, 100 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2020, at her residence. She was the daughter of Arthur B. and Norma Smith of Maryville, Tenn.

Making a mark on history

She has beaten cancer twice and lived to see 18 U.S. presidents, just as many recessions and even a World War. Graham County resident Frances Smith Whitehead celebrated her 100th birthday Tuesday.

Condo zoning variance passed

Lake Santeetlah – A 2001 brainstorm took a step in the right direction, 19 years after it was initially discussed. After a lengthy public hearing – which included a continued session from January – the Town of Lake Santeetlah voted 4-1 during its Feb.

Council appoints new positions

Lake Santeetlah – With the 2019 election out of the way, the town assigned council members to posts during its Dec. 10 meeting. Jim Hager was motioned in to his post as mayor, while Keith Predmore was named both the vice mayor and assistant finance officer.

Fall color comes late

As any resident of western North Carolina is aware, fall color has come late to the mountains this year.  The combination of record-setting high temperatures in September – along with the drought that followed – both slowed and muted the changing of the leaves.
