Council appoints new positions

Lake Santeetlah – With the 2019 election out of the way, the town assigned council members to posts during its Dec. 10 meeting.

Jim Hager was motioned in to his post as mayor, while Keith Predmore was named both the vice mayor and assistant finance officer. The appointment of finance officer was tabled until the next meeting, when the council will have its first full attendance since the Nov. 5 election.

Other news and notes from the meeting include:

* The rampant kudzu problem was discussed. Hager proposed passing an ordinance that implores homeowners to pay for the removal of the plant on their respective properties. Justus pointed out that the ordinance might have more support if an expert weighed in on the subject, and the idea of inviting the county extension agency to the next meeting was met with positive response.

* The town still has received no bids on the water system repair, upgrades and well house repairs. Hager said the town has reached out to several contractors and extended the RFP (request for proposal) period for two weeks.

* Beth Carlton was appointed by unanimous vote to fill the vacant seat on the Town of Lake Santeetlah Planning Board.

* The council set up its 2020 meeting schedule. Public workshops will be held on the second Tuesday of each month, while regular meetings will take place on the third Tuesday of each month.

Both sessions will begin at 10 a.m.
