Robbinsville – Two separate, recent bomb threats at county schools were swiftly addressed over a six-day period.
According to a press release from Graham County Schools, around 8:30 a.m., Feb. 18, administrators at Robbinsville High School learned that a pair of middle school students had been heard discussing the idea of placing a bomb inside the restroom near the track.
The school was immediately placed on hard lockdown, while both the Graham County Sheriff’s Office and Graham County Emergency Management were called in to help investigate the matter. The students involved were identified and interviewed, during which it was determined that the threat was made in a joking manner.
Once the threat was determined to not be viable, the lockdown was lifted.
A separate pair of students were reported near the end of Feb. 24’s school day, for talking about constructing a bomb at one of the student’s homes. School Resource officers quickly identified and interviewed the students, determining there was no credibility behind the discussion.
“While there was no verified danger, the students’ comments were inappropriate and will be addressed in accordance with the Graham County Schools Student Code of Conduct,” said a Graham County Schools press release about the incident. “The safety our students and staff remains our highest priority.
“We appreciate the individuals who reported the concern, allowing us to respond quickly and thoroughly.”
