Snowbird – Graham County Sheriff’s Deputy David Moore and Graham County Rescue Squad members were involved in rescuing a young woman from the woods in the Snowbird area Sunday night.
The woman was reportedly first heard calling for help at the Snowbird Picnic Area on Snowbird Road around 8:30 p.m. Santeetlah Lake was backed up with boat traffic almost to the picnic area, and Deputy Moore was unable to get across at the point where the calls for help seemed to be coming from and requested assistance from Graham County Rescue Squad members.
Rescue squad members used the Santeetlah Lake Trail that parallels Snowbird Creek and Santeetlah Lake for a considerable distance in that area. A search crew consisting of Brent Eller, Larry Crisp, Ronnie Capps, Dalton Capps and Dawson Carpenter located the woman who is a local at 9:15 p.m.
The woman was soaking wet, bruised and scratched from crawling through the dense underbrush. She told the rescuers that she was in a boat on Santeetlah Lake with some other individuals who put her out of the boat on the shore and left her.
