Snowbird – More details have emerged in the case of a local woman who exposed a child to methamphetamine.

Graham County Sheriff’s Office Detective Andrew Bennett said that the Graham County Department of Social Services reached out after a family member of 32-year-old Chantilly Welch expressed concerns that her youngest child was being raised in an environment where drug use was common.

A hair follicle test was conducted on the child by Quest Lab, and came back positive for methamphetamine.

Welch turned herself in on Oct. 6, 2020, and was released after being charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, a misdemeanor. She was arrested a second time last week after violating conditions of her release.

Bennett said no other charges had been brought against Welch at this point.

Graham County DSS Director Cris Weatherford declined to comment on the case, stating that DSS was unable to provide case details to the media.
