Fontana Dam – Ongoing attempts by the Town of Fontana Dam to collect funds owed by Fontana Village Resort & Marina have not been resolved.
During the Nov. 20 council meeting, Town Administrator Zelerie Rogers said the resort owes the town is behind $86,245, which dates back to the end of June. Additionally, user fees – which were sent out Nov. 21 – totaled $5,366 for $91,611 and October water plant reimbursements of $3,895, bringing the total amount past due to $95,506.
Rogers told the council that Jeremiah Williams, accounting controller for Fontana Village Resort & Marina, reached out and asked if the resort could make payments on what is owed. Rogers told Williams that she had no problem with that, as long as it was clear what the payments were going toward and stated that Williams has not responded since.
Mayor Rob Hardy and Rogers then discussed sending another letter to remind the resort of what is owed. Rogers pointed out that the town’s audit has been sent and the money owed by the resort could result in an unclean report.
“They’ve made some progress, so I don’t want to come down hard,” Hardy said. “I want to continue in good faith.”
Also at the meeting:
* The town approved a 50-cent raise for sanitation and maintenance director David Phillips, which will raise his hourly pay to $12.
* Rogers informed the council that roughly $10,000 remained after the wastewater plant upgrades. Rogers hoped to upgrade a blower with the remaining funds, but the idea of paying Jeff Morse – who at one time was the town consultant – for his help with administrating the wastewater grant was floated. The motion passed unanimously.
* Prospective council members Sabrina Garrison and Jon Hogdson were both present at the meeting. Hardy extended an invitation for both to join the council which would bring the council back to the full capacity of five.
