Senior project awards announced

Robbinsville – Robbinsville High School would like to recognize the following students for their outstanding work on their senior projects, in which students demonstrate skills learned throughout high school to complete either job-shadowing or community-service hours.  

The Class of 2020 did an outstanding job on their senior projects, showing great creativity and effort.  

The following students were recognized with a plaque and a $50 cash prize because they earned a perfect score for their senior projects. 

These awards were made possible by the generosity of numerous local businesses and organizations whose names are listed on the awards. We thank them for their investment in our students:

* Jensen Carver was recognized for her work job shadowing in the field of dental hygiene. Her award is sponsored by Papa’s Pizza.

* Emma Nichols was recognized for her work spreading awareness regarding domestic violence and arranging classes for young women to learn self-defense. Her award is sponsored by Southern Gals Restaurant.

* Ashley Briggs was recognized for her work job-shadowing in a middle school history class. She plans to pursue a career as an educator after high school. Her award is sponsored by Lynn’s Place Restaurant.

* Warren Brooks was recognized for his work job-shadowing in a high school history class. He worked specifically to gain content knowledge about the history of WWI, which will aid him as he possibly pursues a career in this field of study. His award is sponsored by Crisp and Crisp Contracting.

* Hannah Moose was recognized for her service organizing a blood drive at our school through the American Red Cross. Her award is sponsored by Herve Cody Construction.

* Lanie Stewart was recognized for her work job shadowing at the Snowbird Mountain Lodge to gain knowledge about her topic of formal dining. Her award is sponsored by United Community Bank.

* Karlyn Matheson was recognized for her work job-shadowing with public health officials at both the Centers for Disease Control and Graham County Department of Public Health.  Matheson also served on the Graham County Opioid Response Coalition and the Rural Communities Opioid Response Plan committee in a volunteer capacity. Her award is sponsored by First-Citizens Bank.

* Tayla Millsaps was recognized for her service volunteering at a no-kill animal shelter called PAWS in Bryson City. Her award is sponsored by Eller’s Fuel and Wrecker Service.

* In memory of Joyce Perkins – a former math teacher at Robbinsville High School – Ayana Yan was recognized for her work job-shadowing with a local math teacher. Yan strived to do her very best in all aspects of the project and continues to do so in all of her academic endeavors.
